Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) at Challa Eye hospital

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) diagnostic test uses light rays that helps in taking cross-sectional images of eye. At challa eye care centre, our personnel are experts in performing OCT test, with which they identify the retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy (diabetic eye disease) or age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Using Optical coherence tomography (OCT), our eye doctors can look thoroughly at the retina & obtain a virtual, non-invasive biopsy. This is akin to CAT scan, but OCT uses infrared light instead of x-rays to get a cross-sectional view of retina. The obtained detailed retina images allow our retina Specialists to view the retina at a microscopic level &identify diseases in the retina.

How challa eye care ophthalmologists prepare you For an Oct Exam

We put dilating eye drops in your eyes. These drops help in widening pupil and make it easier to examine the retina.

After dilating the pupils, the patient will be asked to sit in front of the OCT machine and rest his/her head against the headrest and remain steady till the completion of scanning. During this process, patient just looks into the lens of device at a small, blinking point, and the equipment scans the eye without touching it. The duration of scanning will take just few seconds.

Dilated eyes are sensitive to light for several minutes after the OCT test.

Our detailed Diagnosis Process

Ophthalmologists at Challa eye care centre treat and monitor your Retinal Disease with utmost care. Optical Coherence Tomography offers great help for evaluating the vitreo-retinal interface, as it assists to pinpoint retinal pathologies &identify retinal diseases. Using OCT we can also monitor the progression or regression of the disease, which helps us in determining whether the treatment is necessary or not.

Also, OCT enables eye doctors to examine whether the fluid or edema in the retina is decreasing or not due to retinal therapies such as laser or eye injections.

Conditions that can be diagnosed using OCT help

OCT test is used to diagnose several eye conditions, such as:

  1. Macular hole
  2. Macular edema
  3. Macular pucker
  4. Glaucoma
  5. Age-related macular degeneration
  6. Diabetic retinopathy
  7. Central serous retinopathy
  8. Vitreous Traction

Further, we use OCT to examine optic nerve disorders. Ophthalmologists at Challa eye care centre, use OCT test to view changes in the fibers of the optic nervein glaucoma.
